Gillian White has written a number of psychological crime novels and Copycat is the latest one in the series. With Copycat Gillian White has shown how easy it is for what is normally considered to be a perfect domestic life to also be considered a breeding ground for realistic and frightening violence.

When Jennie moved in next door to Martha they soon became firm friends. However that was also soon to change. The friendship soon turned sour and Martha’s life soon begins to unravel; while Jennie becomes more independent she in turn becomes needy and unable to cope. As one can expect the relationship between the two women soon turns extremely bitter and it is clear that is a relationship that can’t continue in the same way. Before long murder has raised it’s ugly head and only one person can survive.

Copycat makes for compulsive reading and is certainly a page-turner. This frightening look of what can be found within the most ordinary of family’s, leaves the reader wondering whether or not one should have anything to do with their neighbour. The ending however is oh so daring but also apt. Not a book to read if you have fallen out with your neighbour, it might give you some strange ideas!
