‘Blindsighted’ by Karin Slaughter

Blindsighted is the first in the series featuring Dr Sara Linton, paediatrician and medical examiner and her ex husband Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver who live in the small Georgian town of Heartsdale.

Within a few pages Sara switches from treating children to dealing with the aftermath of a gruesome rape and murder scene. The victim was a blind professor and her twin sister Lena Adams is a member of the police force investigating her death. All thoughts of a one off attacker are blown away when a second woman is left near death, crucified, on Sara's car. Then a third woman disappears and the race is on.

I had been anxious about reading this as the author has a reputation for writing graphic violent scenes and it is a well founded reputation. Some of the unpleasant images are as clear in my mind now as when I was reading them.

The whodunit aspect isn't very complicated as there are few suspects and really it turns into a why- dunit but I was left a bit disappointed with the answer.

In spite of the gore, I really did enjoy this book, it definitely is a 'page turner' and I can't wait to read the next book Kisscut to find out what happens to the three main characters.

Blindsighted is a compulsive read and very powerful with the author exploring a terrible subject and it will linger in the mind.
