When Christine Stewart saves nine-year old Michael Redfield from being crushed by falling masonry, Christine’s relaxing vacation on the beautiful island of Corfu is shattered. Taking the boy back to his family Christine is surprised to find hostility from Michael’s mother Demetra, but open admiration from her brother Spiro. Whilst recovering from faintness in their villa Christine encounters Geoffrey Redfield, Michael’s uncle, who disappears, as quickly as he had appeared! But not before Christine learns of the hostility directed at Geoffrey.
For Geoffrey is seeking custody of Michael, and Michael is a wealthy boy. Invited by both Michael and Spiro to spend the remainder of her stay at their villa, Christine is determined to protect Michael and capitulates, finding herself in the midst of distrust and intrigue.
Unsure who to trust Christine is attracted by Geoffrey and Spiro, each antagonistic towards the other. Geoffrey confides to Christine that he does not believe that his brothers death was an accident. Spiro tells Christine that Geoffrey hated his brother so much, he once tried to kill him!
With descriptions of Greece that instantly transport the reader to sun filled
days, blue seas and skies, Ekaterine has woven a rich and fascinating romantic
mystery, with many twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. It made me
feel nostalgic and young, and it’s a long time since a book has had that effect
on me!
