Deep Waters is the latest in the series featuring Inspector Ikmen. When a man’s body is found with his head almost decapitated on a foggy night by the banks of the Bosphorus the police are quite rightly concerned. They soon learn that he is a twenty-five year old Albanian whose family having been resident in Turkey for decades. However, Inspector Ikem is soon left in little doubt as to the cause of the young man’s death as it seems that a long-standing blood feud has erupted with a rival gang. To make things worse Ikem himself is in danger of being drawn personally into the feud.
Barbara Nadel has been called the Dona Leon of Istanbul and quite rightly so.
This series has garnered a lot of fans with its authentic portrayal of Istanbul.
In Deep Waters we find that this is the case as well. Having read the earlier
books in the series I can say that this series is getting better and better
as they progress. Deep Waters is an excellent story and the intricacies flowing
through the novel are spectacularly woven together. Despite the seriousness
of the novel, it was a very satisfying read. The delight in reading this series
can be seen from the fact that as a reader you are drawn quite easily in to
the life and times of the ancient city of Istanbul
