Lisa Watson is having a bad day. One moment life has potential - the next she is out of a job, the advertising agency tell her that her work lacks ‘ethereal’ and her exhibition is postponed. Lisa is a photographer - true the job was just data entry to tide her over, and the exhibition has only been postponed, but how can anyone photograph tampons and make them ethereal?! What Lisa needs is junk food and a movie, and who better to share it with but her friend Debbie Pratt. Debbie is plump, cheerful, has a Real Job, makes good money and will listen to Lisa bitch.
In the video shop Debbie meets handsome Derek, who appears to be her Prince Charming, but Lisa has reservations. Derek seems too good to be true. In fact, Derek has big plans and a secret life.
Told from multiple points of view, this was a very good read. Lisa is down to earth and up in the clouds at the same time - realistic about her life, but artistic as she sees life as a series of black and white photographs. The life of wealthy Robert Helton who thinks that he is protected by position and money, and Derek who knows he can outwit anyone - or can he?
The book contained a very clear message, one which we sometimes lose sight
of but is all too sadly true: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
I like Lisa and hope that there is another adventure in the pipeline.
