Johnny Ace has taken the plunge and opened Ace Investigations. As Johnny likes to be out and about, he has taken into partnership his friend Jim Burroughs recently retired from the Merseyside Police to run the office. His first two cases look pretty tame, and seem to offer little scope for Johnny's sleuthing capabilities. Indeed, he is having more excitement in his capacity as a landlord and attending an action to keep his eye out for a bargain for one of his flats, he bids for an old Grundig tape recorder and find himself in the possession of an early John Lennon tape of unpublished songs.

Finding himself suspended from his radio show, which he hopes will be a temporary measure, Johnny sets out to ferret out the background to the unknown John Lennon songs, and some tedious legwork on his two cases. But he keeps running into coincidences and when he comes across a brutally murdered body, things take a serious turn.

As in previous books, Johnny is balancing his life between Hilary and Maria, the latter keen to help in his investigation and the former, a long time girlfriend who has little time for them. According to Johnny he needs them both.! Between balancing his love life and pursuing the origins of the John Lennon tapes and being pursued by the bad guys, this book is great fun.-
