This collection of stories that can be found in Mysterious Pleasures has been put together to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Crime Writers’ Association by anthologist extraordinaire Martin Edwards. The beauty of this collection is that all the authors featured in it have either won the CWA’s Diamond or Gold Dagger or both and or have served as Chairman. In some cases they have in fact done all three. Mysterious Pleasures contains eight new stories written specifically for this anthology.
This is a delightful collection of stories, from the hardboiled to the soft and there is bound to be a story in here to suit everyone’s taste. I have always been an enthusiast of anthologies as I believe that they are a great way to get to know old established authors as well as new ones and this collection is no exception. Furthermore, you don’t have to start at the beginning; you can pick where to commence your reading. Martin Edwards has done an excellent job in compiling this anthology. He has managed to cover all the bases with exceptionally good results.
Dip into this collection at your leisure and you will not be disappointed.
Mysterious Pleasures is not only a welcome addition to the annals of crime fiction
anthologies but also a splendid way to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Crime
Writers’ Association.
