John Baker is one of those brilliant writers who are so underrated that only long time readers of the genre truly appreciate how well he writes. White Skin Man is the second book in his new series featuring Stone Lewis the hero of the powerful novel The Chinese Girl.
One day an attractive photographer witnesses a murder while taking photographs. Unfortunately the murderer has also seen her taking the photographs and follows her before seizing the camera. Luckily Katy still has the foresight to remove the flash card from the digital camera before the murderer realises.
Scared stiff she goes home, but when she returns the following day there is no body and in fact a murder hasn’t even been reported. Petrified, Katy recognizes that she needs help as once the murderer becomes conscious of the fact that he has an empty camera she is certain that he will be back. Help comes in the form of Stone Lewis a friend of a friend. Slowly but surely Lewis finds himself not only drawn into Katy’s life but the whole sordid mess he has been hoping to avoid.
White Skin Man is a novel of incredible depth and tension. From the
beginning we are lured by the story and the huge passion that it evokes. It
is an engrossing and richly written story that is both powerful and poignant
and a page turner. In Stone Lewis, John Baker has created a worthy modern-day
hero who tormented just like the rest of us!
