Unknown meansThe forensic pathologist Evelyn James is called to a penthouse in Cleveland to examine the body of a beautiful young woman in the kitchen.   This woman has been strangled and there soon follows an attack on another female in the parking garage of the same building complex.  The attacker has left very little record of his presence on either crime scene and there is a further mystery in that his journey into the apartment of the first victim cannot be traced.

Evelyn’s technical skills are desperately needed to get some information concerning this murderer so that he can be found.  The author has been a forensic scientist with a Coroner’s Office and is now a Police Crime Scene Investigator so her knowledge of the minutiae of  the forensic pathologist’s job is superb.   It is fascinating to see how the tiniest traces can be forced to give valuable information and how the detectives and scientists can work together to build a coherent picture.

Other cases are added to the stressful burden of work for Evelyn and her personal life is also complicated at this point.  The tension stretches and stretches as the thriller reaches its climax.  This is an excellent book with a clever mystery at its heart and interesting characters appearing along the byways of the investigations.
