‘Breaking Faith’ by Jo Bannister

Brodie Farrell runs a business called Looking For Something: she will find anything, but not people. When she is approached by Eric Chandos, the manager of rock star Jared Fry, to find Jared a house in the area, she is sparked by the challenge. But nothing seems suitable until, applying lateral thinking, she comes up with the idea of the old coaching inn ‘The Diligence’ which seems to meet all the criteria laid down by Eric Chandos. That ‘ The Diligence’ is currently converted into flats makes the challenge for Brodie to get it converted back to a house all the more fascinating. Eric Chandos is delighted with her ideas and soon they are deep in plans for the re-conversion. During the course of the conversion, Brodie is startled to find an attraction between her and Eric Chandos. Brodie has been in a relationship with Detective Superintendent Jack Deacon for some time. Jack, being always deeply involved in his work, doesn’t notice anything amiss, but Brodie’s friend Daniel Hood senses something..

The night of the grand opening arrives and Brodie flushed with success, attends the party with Daniel, who took some considerable persuading. But Jared is less than pleased. “Where,” he demands, “is the swimming pool?”

Although it’s not in her original brief Brodie sets out to address the wishes of the rock star, but finds herself embroiled in a different matter when a body is discovered during the excavation.

An interesting entry in the series as Brodie’s personal life takes a different turn. If you enjoy the novels of the late Janie Bolitho, you will enjoy this series.
