I found this an unusual book.  Maybe because I am so used to the black and white of good and evil – the good don’t kill and the evil do.  However, that turns on its head with this book as the protagonist Nadia Stafford who, as she put’s it ‘I moonlight as a hitman to keep my business – a wilderness lodge – open’

When  Nadia’s  waitress, a single mother called Sammi Ernst disappears no one seems to care. The local people had little time for Sammi, although a beautiful girl, she has attitude, and definitely comes from the wrong side of the tracks.  But Nadia sets out to find out what has happened to Sammi –, her baby was the sole reason she worked and having a job to support her child was the most important thing to Sammi - so why would she suddenly disappear ?

Nadia’s  investigations lead her into a very nasty business. Although Nadia just does hits for a New York crime family and never gets involved with the whys and where for’s, she cannot let this go.

During her investigations her mentor Jack who has been out of touch for an unusually long time surfaces and gives a helping hand.

There are dark secrets in Nadia’s life and  as it transpires more than one man. This was an interesting and very satisfying book.  I realise  that this is not the first in the series and I will be looking for the earlier ones and eagerly awaiting the next one.
