Samantha Shaw, is just getting back on her feet following the death of her husband, who was discovered to be a panty-collecting drug dealer, who got himself murdered by one of his mistresses. Having lost not only her husband but also her home, Sam with her two children TJ, 14, Joel 12 and Ali, the German Shepherd move in with Grandpa, who is 72 and an ex-magician.

In promotion of her dating agency Heart Mates, Sam has employed her new friend Faye Miller, who has just recently set up a design business, to produce a brochure for Heart Mates. Arriving at breakfast meeting to discuss the brochure, Sam finds Faye dead clutching the Heart Mates brochure.

The investigating officer Detective Logan Vance is not a fan of Sam’s, her reputation having gone before her, as during the course of discovering the misdeeds of her husband, Sam exposed Police Officer Rossi as a bad cop. Despite her good intentions to stay out of the investigation Sam finds herself drawn in by Adam Miller, the estranged husband of Faye, and Mindy, Faye’s best friend. Whilst Adam Millar remains the police’s prime suspect. Adam hires Sam to prove his innocence and find Faye’s killer.

As Sam had met Faye when she applied to meet someone through Heart Mates, Sam‘s starting point is the partners that she lined up for Faye. Sam encounters wariness when she talks to Jim Ponn, who owns a printing business, and outright hostility when she meets up with Tristan Rogers, Dominic Danger’s partner in their coffee shop ‘Smash Coffee.’. As she talks to these people she begins to wonder, did she really know Faye.

Between being stalked by an unknown person in a White SUV, trying to protect her business from bad publicity, and dealing with her mother, Sam has a hectic life. Luckily she has gorgeous Italian ex LA cop Gabe to soothe her in the evenings. During the day she has Detective Logan Vance, who she dislikes intensely, or does she? Rich in characters and suspects, this is a great read., fast paced and sassy. If like me, you are an Evanovich fan this is definitely for you.
