Jordan Lacey, junk shop owner and Latching’s intrepid PI, is thrilled when two new cases come her way – could be she can eat this week.  Her first case is a troubled wife whose clothes seem to go missing and then mysteriously return, could her husband be a cross-dresser? And a man who employ’s Jordan to prove or disprove whether he is the father of boy for whom he has been paying maintenance for the last twelve years.

Investigating these two cases she crosses paths with her great love Inspector James, I say great love but she hasn’t actually had a date with Inspector James just constant fantasies, as James is the object of her unrequited love.   On the other hand handsome Sargeant Ben Evans, is very keen, but then not the one she wants – isn’t it always the way?

While going about her day to day business, she has a run in with a bull mastiff, becomes entangled with a ten-year-old unsolved murder, is poisoned and encounters a tidal wave at far too close quarters.  All in a days work!

An entertaining mystery, or should I say mysteries as there are various strands in this story which produce many surprises that hold the readers attention.  I am not too sure that I am sold on the first person writing, I did find the wondering off into fantasies rather tiresome after a while, but I liked the way the investigations came together .

Julia Franklin did an excellent reading – making her lovely voice incredibly rough for the dreadful Gibsons who set the bull mastiff on Jordan. Very entertaining.
