After organising a day out for the sixth form at the Museum of  the Moving Image, Peter ‘Mad Max’ Maxwell is struck down with flu, leaving his charges in the hands of others. Unfortunately, sixth former Ronnie Parsons and  teacher Alice Goode are nowhere to be found when it is time to return to Leighford High. When the days pass with no sign of either missing person, Mad Max visits Alice Goode’s flat and is shocked to discover from her flatmate that the police have not even inspected Alice’s room. Incensed at the lack of interest in the missing teacher, Max sets off to the police station to vent his spleen, and meets again Woman Police Constable Jackie Carpenter.

Although initially giving him the official line - leave it to the professionals - WPC Jackie Carpenter does thaw towards Max! And when a body is discovered, a missing persons case becomes a murder hunt, which takes the Head of Sixth Form into some unseemly places. Can you see Mad Max amongst the porn stars?  It’s something not to be missed .

Peter Wickham is as always superb as Mad Max, and narrated the story with his usual aplomb, giving the reader equal enjoyment of his portrayal of Deardre Lessing the school deputy and his making some of the lesser characters memorable. A most enjoyable entry in this excellent series.
