Set on a remote island in the Outer Hebrides, this is the story of a small community, who are suddenly and unexpectedly invaded by a camera crew, who say they have the owner’s permission to survey the island's nature reserve, for ‘an experiment in desert island survival’.

The Elliott’s are the wealthy landowners, and the son Mark, brain damaged from meningitis when a child, is now a young man, a boy in a man’s body, but guarded from any extreme behaviour, by Bruce, who acts as his carer.

While Bruce attempts to track down Tim Elliott, Mark’s father, who is currently in South Africa, and who Bruce is certain would not have given permission for any such intrusion in the nature reserve, a young local girl is reported missing, and the structure of the community begins to break down, as the inhabitants begin to regard each other with suspicion.

When the police begin investigations, Bruce becomes concerned about Mark, whose behaviour shows changes not hitherto seen before, and then he adopts a protective attitude to a member of the TV crew. Read by James Bryce, who has a wonderful Scottish accent, with just the right intonation, for each of the characters, this was a very enjoyable mystery, that transports the reader to the beautiful Scottish Highlands
