Lindsay Gordon has returned to Glasgow with her partner Sophie who has accepted a position which is a great career opportunity. Jobless in Glasgow, Lindsay makes friends with freelance journalist Rory McLaren. Then Rory asks Lindsay to work with her.

She starts off investigating some political corruption and finds that she quickly gets back into the world of journalism that she thought she had left behind.

Then a local car dealer’s stepson is kidnapped. Lindsay interviews the family, and finds something about Bernadette Dooley that does not seem quite right. Tam, Jack’s stepfather is inconsolable. Lindsay makes some calls and finds information that points the trail to St Petersburg. With her father’s help they devise a dangerous snatch back operation.

But there is something bigger at stake, Bernadette is being watched, but why? Then there is a murder. Lindsay is convinced that Bernadette is holding something back—but what? And what will it take to force Bernadette to reveal her secret?

There are also changes in her relationship with Sophie. Sophie has long wanted children and now feels that the time for talking about it is over - her body clock is ticking, but is Lindsay ready for parenthood?

This is the long-awaited sixth entry in the series and it was worth waiting for. The climax is stunning and surprising. Vari Sylvester does a creditable job, and produces a pleasant Scottish accent without overdoing it. Her Belfast accent was excellent.
