Famous poet Kirsten Waller is found electrocuted in her bath whilst in her remote Cornish cottage. Sam her daughter , a talented cellist, refuses to believe that her mother committed suicide because she was working on a major new poem called ‘The Murder Bird’ and because her journal has gone missing. Sam’s home life is also in a mess, as no one wants her around. Her attempts to find her mother’s journal are fraught with danger.
The Murder Bird is an engrossing psychological thriller with the family dynamics being very much a part of the storyline. There are an enormous number of different threads and complications in this book, which is also a fast-paced engrossing novel.
Julia Franklin is a very good narrator and certainly knows how to ensure that the listener is engrossed in the novel. She manages to encompass all the different characters with their own sense of individuality. If you enjoy listening to psychological books on tape then The Murder Bird is one that should be added to your collection.
