Read by Lisa Ross

Nord Lafferty employs the services of PI Kinsey Milhone to collect his daughter from the California Institute for Women, where she has been serving a sentence for embezzlement, and bring her back to the family home. It seems pretty easy money, but Reba Lafferty is something else.

Kinsey finds herself fighting a losing battle to keep Reba from breaking the conditions of her parole. Kinsey meets up with Chaney , a cop she has known for some years but who is now free from entanglement and he and Kinsey take a shine to each other (that’s a polite way of says they are really ‘hot’ and inside each other’s underwear at the drop of a hat).

Whilst babysitting Reba, Kinsey meets with Reba’s boss Alan Beckwith (Becks) who she discovers Reba covered for over the missing money, and went to jail to protect him. However, when Reba discovers that Becks has been spinning her a line, the old adage ‘hell hath no fury like a woman scorned’ comes into play, and she agrees to provide vital evidence that will put Becks behind bars.

Kinsey fixes with Chaney for Reba to meet with Vince of the FBI to spill the beans on Becks, but Reba, true to form, seems to have her own agenda and Kinsey finds herself in a game of wits.

We meet up with all the usual suspects: Rosie who runs the local bar, and the lovely Henry Pitts who has fallen for Maddy, to the consternation of his brothers who decide to help, or perhaps hinder the path of true love. Quite good fun, although there have been better entrants in the series.

Lisa Ross does an excellent job with all the characters, and greatly contributed to my enjoyment of the book.
