Murder First Glass It is a shame that Ron Ellis is not as well known as he should be because he writes such excellent  stories and Murder First Glass is a testament to his brilliant storytelling. Murder First Glass is the first in the series to feature Detective Inspector Glass. There is a new  breed of murderer on the horizon known as the Executioner. He is a proponent of the death penalty and has every intention of seeing it restored into use which he announces in a letter to The Times. Within a week his first victim has been found swinging at the end of a rope. Not unsurprisingly all the criminals are quaking in their boots.

Detective Inspector Glass on the other hand is  running around trying to investigate a string of Post Office robberies. As his investigation leads him to a football match that is taking place on a Bank Holiday in London, who will find them first, the police or the Executioner?

Murder First Glass was published over 20 years ago and it is a shame that it has taken so long for an  audio version to be done. This is an excellent story which is gripping, well written and if I were reading it as a book I would have said that it was a page turner. As it is I stayed up late to finish listening to it.

The reading is done excellently by Peter Wickham  who draws the reader in and takes them on an enjoyable ride. Well worth staying up late to finish.
