Seaminster’s Police Chief Maurice Kendrick has not always wanted to accept help from the Peter Piper Agency but recently he has grudgingly come to recognize the fact that they can be useful. In Easeful Death things move a step further when concerned about his niece’s involvement in a local mysterious sect he approaches the agency for help in a civilian capacity.

Soon not long after a disguised Phyllida Moon begins her investigation two of the sect’s young members jump from a cliff into the sea. But was it in fact suicide or was it murder? Soon afterwards the enigmatic leader of the sect falls dead at a meeting held at his family home. Is this the public suicide that his members have been waiting for or was it again murder? Kendrick soon finds himself investigating the event with more than one suspect to consider.

Easeful Death is capably read by Anne Cater who as an enjoyable and pleasant voice. She manages to bring a distinct style to her reading of the novel and the listener is drawn into the tale quite easily. Unlike some readers the listener is able to distinguish between the different characters as Anne Cater brings a distinctive voice to each one of them. This is also a police procedural that has not lost any of the tension because of the way it is narrated.

This novel is well worth listening to and they have managed to find the perfect voice for it. If you enjoy listening to books on tape then this should certainly be added to the list
